Spring Means

I am working on my memoir again and since its almost Spring I thought I would take a side break from the usual and write about what Spring means IN THE SOUTH!

First of all. Back to living in CA I am back to where its safe in the Spring. About the only thing we have to worry about is slim chances of rain, plenty of sunshine and maybe warmer temps.

Not in the South. I spent 3 Springs in the South 2008, 2009 and 2010. Our first was hectic and I knew the next two would be as well. While others celebrated warmer weather and no snow. We celebrated TORNADOS!!

Although TN can get tornados any time of year they get them the most in the Spring. I know what causes them when you are in the part of the country where its warm OR cold and the opposite front comes at you, you get thunderstorms and then tornados. So when you go from below zero to just above temps to suddenly even the 50's or 60's it can cause problems if there are storms coming with it.

While we only dealt with a few actual tornados near us we had them nearly every year in some form. In 2008 simply blessed to have no tornados hit near us just stop by us. 2009 we had some that caused the worse damage. One came near us and hit the local boys & girls club and the small movie theater near us. The other one came in our city and it was very large there were two and one of them actually almost hit our apts. In 2010 the worse we got was rains that flooded our beloved state and caused tons of damage.

I still love Spring. And now that I am safe. I miss the crazy weather. The storms, and the weather radio that we had on nearly daily sometimes. Although it was scary not knowing if you would be hit. The excitement alone kept us going. It was both thrilling and exciting to be scared by storms.

Something so simple, 3 years since I last was there that I truly miss Spring in the south!!

Be safe my southern friends
